The dangerous aspects of working with machines emerge as soon as the power is turned on. Operating machines are a huge part of your job, but they also put you at risk. That’s why it’s so important that you understand that the first and best form of protection is machine guarding. Any machine part, function or process that may cause injury must be protected. Hazards arising from accidental operation or contact must be controlled or eliminated. Working with your machine often becomes routine, sometimes to the point where the machine feels like an extension of you, like another hand or arm. You find that you are no longer focused on submission, because submission is second nature, just like breathing. This sense of security can lead to disaster. Therefore, always be aware of the dangers of the machinery you are working with. This course covers machine guard responsibilities and requirements for how you need to prepare for security and apply it to your day-to-day work.
