What is a Forklift? A mobile, power-propelled truck used to carry, push, pull, lift, stack or tier materials. Forklifts are considered vehicles that are used for earth moving and over-the-road hauling are excluded. PIT’s are commonly known as forklifts, pallet trucks, rider trucks, fork trucks or lift trucks. They can be powered through electric or combustion engines.

Why is forklift training necessary for operation and use?

• Currently averaging 85 deaths each year
• About 61,000 accidents each year
• OSHA (29 CFR 1910.178) requires training; included are classroom and hands-on along with written and driving evaluations.
