Scissor Lift Flashback!

STOP!

Congratulations, you’re almost done with the course!  However, let’s take a few minutes to reflect on the course content before you take the final exam. You will only get 2 chances to pass the final with a score of 80% or higher.

If you aren’t confident in your knowledge of one of the following subjects, go back to the relevant lesson in the course to give it a review.

  • Before operating an aerial platform check the site thoroughly for hazards.
  • After you have successfully entered the boom lift’s basket attach your safety harnesses to its proper lanyard point.
  • Avoid operating an aerial platform around energized power lines.
  • Do NOT use the “high speed” setting on the lift whenever possible.
  • ONLY trained and authorized workers can operate aerial lifts.
  • Never operate an aerial platform in strong and gusty winds.
  • It is necessary to make sure the lift is on a level surface before raising the platform.
  • Never tie-off a safety harness to an outside source (steel beam, roof, pole, etc.).
  • An inspection of an aerial platform must be done before the unit is operated.
  • It is OK to use your boom to push the aerial platform along the ground.
  • In the event that the aerial platform requires mechanical, electrical or hydraulic maintenance, park the lift on a level area away from traffic, shut down, attach a “DO NOT OPERATE” tag to the machine and remove the key.
  • The manufacturer’s Operator’s Manual is stored with the machine for immediate access and review.
  • The capacity of a boom lift basket/deck is constant and should be known before operating the lift.
  • If you cannot determine the capacity of the lift, refer to the Operator’s Manual.
  • You should take a walking inspection of the work site before each shift to note special conditions which may affect aerial platform operation.
