Electrical Hazards

WHAT IS ELECTRICITY?

•Electricity is the presence and flow of an electric charge (electrons) in one direction.
•There is two forms of electricity
•Static Electricity –  the increase of electric charge on the surface of objects.
•Current Electricity – electrons in motion along a path.

Direct Current

Alternating Current

How does Electricity work?

•Electricity is the flow of electrons around a circuit

•Electrons carry electrical energy from one place to another creating an electrical current

•For an electrical current to occur, there must a circuit which is a closed path or loop around which an electrical current flows

•Conductors, such as metal is used to create circuit

•Insulators, such as plastic and rubber are used to cover the circuit
