Every year industrial workers suffer an estimated 110,000 hand injuries. Many of these are permanently disabling – amputation, burns and crushing injuries. Everyday workers in a wide range of industries engage in hand-to-hand combat with their work, tools, and machines. In addition to everyday home hazards, 70% of workers who experienced hand injuries were not wearing gloves. A breakdown of the five most common hand injuries in the workplace include:

• lacerations (63%)
• crushes (13%)
• avulsions or detachments (8%),
• punctures (6%)
• fractures (5%)
• If you know where your hands are, they won’t get hurt

The hands are the most frequently injured part of the body. One-third of all oil and gas industry accidents are hand injuries.
